The initiative which was implemented between August 2015 and May 2016 through funding from SSF implemented successfully offered employment intensive work (EIW) opportunities to vulnerable youth in Gedo region, of Jubaland state. The project was aimed at supporting priority 2 (Expand opportunities for youth employment through job creation and skills development) of PSG 4 in the Somali Compact. The project offered opportunities for young vulnerable Somali people to engage job creation activities. By involving the youth in development, the project promoted the continuing Somalia stabilization initiatives and giving them an alternative source of income through short-term labour intensive employment as well as enhancing food security through development of irrigation canal schemes that were later transferred to the youth to engage in environmental friendly farming.
